The new Volkswagen Amarok is a pick-up truck that has been designed to avoid many of the flaws and drawbacks that afflict many other vehicles in its class.

For example, the twin-turbo 2.0-litre BiTDI diesel engine is not as large as those found in many pick-ups, but its intelligent design means that it can deliver power output of 163PS and torque of 400Nm. At the same time, its slightly smaller size has a marked effect on fuel economy and carbon emissions; different models offer 35.8mpg to 37.2mpg and 199g/km to 209g/km.

The healthy amount of head and legroom in the interior of the cabin is matched by the space available in the rear cargo bay, which is wider than any vehicle in its class. The double cab version’s load floor area is a mammoth 2.52m². The maximum payload is an equally impressive 1,150kg.
