Motability Scheme

Since 1977, the Motability Scheme has helped hundreds of thousands of motorists with a disability gain a greater degree of control over their lives. It has done this by offering recipients of the Higher Rate Component of the Disability Living Allowance and War Pensioners’ Motability Supplement the option of leasing or buying a new motor vehicle of their choice, in exchange for waiving these benefits.

Generally, Motability customers choose the Hire Purchase option, whereby a car is leased to them. As well as allowing disabled people access to a vehicle, the charity also carries out all the administrative tasks necessary to ensure that the car has accident and personal insurance cover, guaranteed servicing and maintenance, comprehensive breakdown assistance from the RAC, and the right to free tyre, windscreen or window replacements. In addition, Motability allows customers to choose an entirely new vehicle every three years.

The strength of Volkswagen’s commitment to the Motability Scheme has recently been officially recognised – the company received a special commendation in the Motability Supplier Awards 2011.
