A snap of the fingers – and suddenly it’s as if someone has catapulted the concept of the Californian dune buggies of the 60s and the associated lifestyle into the future. A zero-emission high-tech vehicle for the summer, the beach, the city – visually and technically a new facet of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The zero-emissions drivetrain of the I.D. BUGGY is made up of the electric motor integrated in the rear axle, with power electronics, a single-speed gearbox, and the high-voltage flat battery (62 kWh) arranged in the car floor to save space. The electric motor delivers 150 kW / 204 horsepower and maximum torque of 310 Nm from standstill, and gives the vehicle an expected range of 250 on the WLTP cycle.

Volkswagen made motorsport history at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on 24 June with the I.D. R Pikes Peak electric racing car: French racing driver Romain Dumas took just 7 minutes 57.148 seconds to cover the 19.99 kilometers of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the 500 kW / 680 PS zero-emission, four-wheel drive racing thoroughbred. No other car has ever made it to the summit faster. Two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the back, plus two battery blocks ensured ideal weight distribution. And the aerodynamic package guaranteed perfect grip.
